It’s finally here, folks! The Disney Dreamlight Valley Showcase at D23 went live this afternoon, and WOW!, what a panel! It was very cool to hear the Gameloft devs totally geeking out over all things Disney and even sharing some of their most sentimental Disney moments (those weren’t all clues, y’all! They were personal stories–you know, those things that have been the very foundation of Disney for over 100 years!). Rather than merely being an almost hour-long commercial for the game, this panel instead managed to give us some deep insight into what moves the developers to continue to create, as well as a sneak peek at the personalities of the people doing all of this fantastic work for us.

Of course, we did also get some new information about what’s coming to the Valley: Oogie Boogie will be arriving after a special six week quest cycle beginning in September and wrapping up just in time for Halloween. No news yet on what sort of Star Path we can expect in that update, but see below for my speculations (aka my hopes and dreams! 😀 ). Typically, Star Paths run about 40 days, which means if we get the Oogie Boogie update on September 23 (as game files suggest), the following update should be arriving on November 4, but the reveal stated December, so who knows? That December update will feature Lilo’s arrival in the Valley, just in time for a holiday reunion with Stitch–Mele Kalikimaka!

Finally, we were able to view the teaser trailer for the next expansion (*cough cough ahem* DLC): The Keepsake Sea. I don’t know about you, but at our house, the wonder of possibly becoming a mermaid was totally eclipsed by the arrival of Jack Sparrow! And did I spy Captain Barbossa’s hat there on those treasure chests? I guess we’ll have to wait til the October Showcase to find out!

They closed out the panel with an XBox giveaway (you had to be present to win), followed by giving those of us not fortunate enough to be in Anaheim a code to redeem in-game:

I will likewise leave y’all with a small “parting gift”: my Star Path speculation for the Oogie Boogie September Update:

Oogie Boogie Bash Star Path?

What might that look like and what might it include? For those unfamiliar with the after-dark event at Disney California Adventure (DCA), y’all can look forward to a feature on that next week. Meanwhile: I’m hoping for Frightfully Fun Parade-inspired clothing and hairstyles, maybe a map of Villain’s Grove like the one at the start of Redwood Creek Challenge Trail that could be placed outdoors or indoors (perhaps a reskin of the mosaic of Phil item that we received recently), and the huge Oogie Boogie Bash park entry arch that looms over the esplanade between DCA and Disneyland. A gal can hope, right?
