Season of Scares: Celebrating 25 Years of the Haunted Mansion Holiday Overlay at Disneyland

The Season of Scares Update launched on September 23, 2026, ushering in the arrival of Oogie Boogie to the Valley, but did you know that this publish also helps celebrate 25 years of the Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay at Disneyland in Anaheim, California?

What is the Haunted Mansion Holiday Overlay at Disneyland? A holiday overlay of a Disney Park attraction is a limited run re-theming of an attraction, typically themed to a specific holiday or event. The first two successful holiday overlays were the Country Bear Christmas Special (1984) and It’s A Small World Holiday (launched 1997). October 3, 2026 marks the 25 year anniversary of the Haunted Mansion Holiday at Disneyland, which opened to guests for the first time on October 3, 2001. Essentially, Haunted Mansion Holiday is a “takeover” of the traditional Haunted Mansion at Disneyland by Jack, Sally, Oogie Boogie, and the other characters from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas. Within this overlay, the beloved characters from The Nightmare Before Christmas join the majority of the resident 999 Happy Haunts of Disney’s Haunted Mansion, such as the Hatbox Ghost, Madame Leota, and the Hitchhiking Ghosts, but most of the scenes throughout the mansion have been covered/re-themed with Burton-esque “scary Christmas” decorations, storytelling, and music so that the interior of the attraction becomes an adventure inspired by Halloween Town at Christmastime.

We can bring the Haunted Mansion Holiday to life in our own Valley, thanks to items from the Haunted Elegance Star Path and previous years’ Premium Shop. If some things looked strangely familiar in that POV ride-through above, your eyes weren’t playing tricks! The heavily decorated exterior of Haunted Mansion Holiday first appeared in a houseskin bundle, together with the non-seasonal variant of the Disneyland Haunted Mansion, in the Premium Shop in September of 2023 during the Enchanted Adventure Update and has reappeared in the Premium Shop at least once since.

In December 2025, the man-eating wreath from the mansion’s entry scenes and the giant orange and black snake (fully animated) were featured in the Nightmare Holiday Bundle in the Premium Shop.

Rewards for the Haunted Elegance Star Path include the Sandy-Claws Painting of Jack from the attraction’s queue area, the singing pumpkins which take the place of the Haunted Mansion’s famous singing busts in the holiday overlay, and an elf hat inspired by the one located beside the Hatbox Ghost (see comparison images below).

According to Dreamlight Leaks, we will soon be getting a Dreamstyle for Oogie Boogie in the Premium Shop which is a direct reproduction of his appearance in Haunted Mansion Holiday. I’m hoping that his questline will eventually result in us attaining his spinning wheel o’ doom as well, so that I can feature it in my walkthrough Haunted Mansion Holiday attraction within my Valley! (Haunted Mansion Holiday is one of three complete Haunted Mansion walkthrough attractions which I currently maintain in my Valley.) Between the latest offerings in Scrooge’s store and rewards earned from Oogie Boogie himself, we’ve already received plenty of items to celebrate this Disney-history milestone in spooky-ooky holiday style!
